The current shortage of talent in Data Science has led to the creation of a plethora of courses and workshops, both online and in-person — but are we reaching the right audience, and giving them the right skills to close the talent gap? Starting from an overview of the current educational landscape, the talk explores the (mis)match between course curricula and job requirements. This analysis is complemented by a few ‘lessons learned’ from my experience teaching Statistics and Data Science to hundreds of students and professionals in both academia and industry.
