The practitioners, the public, politicians, and pundits all have different understandings of what machine learning and AI is. And those gaps, and especially around the technology’s shortcomings, are shaping the way it is thought of and used. In this talk, I’ll discuss some of the different technical issues that introduce wrongness into AI, how those technical issues have a huge social impact, and what we can do about it. Also: I’ll be showing my own code in a talk for the first time in 15 years, so anything could happen really.
