At DSF we are lucky enough to have some very talented MCs who volunteer their time at our events, bringing their personality, warmth and expertise to the room. During our festivals, our MCs take centre stage, offering a helping hand to our speakers and keeping the show going both on and off stage. This interview provides a glimpse into the personal side of our MCs within our expanding community. Dive into the brief interview below!

When did you MC for DSF?
DSF MayDay 2024
How many times have you been an MC and from what year?
May 2024 was my 1st time as an MC
Why did you want to volunteer as an MC with DSF?
I understand how important volunteers and support staff are to ensure events are a success. I work in the world of data and volunteering at DSF is a great way to support the community. Also, my friend has been a DSF MC and highly recommended the experience, she was correct.
What is your favourite thing about being an MC?
Before and after their talk, I was able to get one-to-one time with the speakers. I found out how they prepare for their speeches, thoughts on their own performance and their personal interests.
What advice would you give other people looking to MC at an event?
As an MC we are briefed, well looked after and you get to meet a variety of people in the data community. All focus is on the speaker and as an MC we are simply there to facilitate.
What is next for you?
I now feel free to express my opinions and take centre stage with no fears. I am taking advantage of all opportunities that come my way as I know it aids my personal and professional development.
Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers for taking part in our MC Spotlight!
