Sometimes we forget the humans behind the tech in our ever busy world. DSF is fortunate enough to know some incredible tech leaders across the world and has the privilege of hearing them present at our events. That being said, our Speaker Spotlight sets the stage to get to know our speakers on a more personal level and connect them with our growing community. Read the mini interview below!

A bit about Aurora:

I’m currently an AI Strategy Manager at HSBC UK, where I focus on shaping the future of financial services through responsible and impactful AI solutions. I hold an MSc in Statistical Science from the University of Oxford and a BSc in Econometrics and Data Science from the University of Amsterdam. My work sits at the intersection of innovation and strategy.

How did you start out in your tech career?

My career started with a strong curiosity about how AI can be leveraged in the world today. While studying econometrics, I was drawn to the potential of machine learning and statistics in solving real-world problems. Internships and side projects helped me explore the applications of AI across industries, eventually leading me into strategy roles where I could combine technical understanding with long-term thinking.

What are the signs of success in your field?

Success in AI it’s about driving real change. Delivering AI solutions that are both ethical and scalable, and fostering a culture of innovation and accountability. If your work leads to clarity, impact, and trust, you’re probably doing it right.

What is the best and worst thing about your job role?

The best thing is the intellectual variety—one day I’m deep-diving into a technical model, the next I’m helping shape policy or guiding stakeholders through an AI roadmap. The hardest part? Balancing ambition with realism. It’s easy to get excited by the potential of AI, but keeping things grounded and responsible is very important.

What can you advise someone just starting out to be successful?

Stay curious and don’t be afraid to ask basic questions. Work on projects that interest you and share your work, even if it’s imperfect. And above all, remember that tech is a team sport: communication and collaboration matter just as much as code.

How do you switch off?

Nature walks, music music and music. It helps to bring back clarity and inspiration.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Don’t rush to tick boxes—your path doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s. Follow your curiosity and don’t be afraid to take the different route.

What is next for you?

I’m looking forward to continuing my work at the intersection of AI and strategy, potentially taking on more leadership responsibilities or advisory roles. Personally, I’m exploring ways to mentor and support emerging talent, particularly those from non-traditional backgrounds.

If you could do anything now, what would you do? Why?

Nothing more to what I am doing. I am exactly where I want.

What are your top 5 predictions in tech for the next 5 years?

  1. Agentic AI
  2. Personalised AI assistants
  3. Energy-efficient AI
  4. Quantum computing breakthroughs
  5. Deepfakes securing
