Apply to speak at DSF Career Day

There are two ways to get involved as a speaker at Data Science Festival Career Day:

Apply to deliver a Lightning Talk
Share your own experience, insights, advice, or lessons learned in a dedicated 15 minute presentation. You will propose your own topic and, if selected, present individually to attendees.

Apply to join a Career Panel
Take part in a moderated panel discussion alongside other professionals. You do not need to prepare a presentation. Instead, you will share your experiences, answer audience questions, and contribute to a conversation on careers in data and AI.

Please choose the option that best matches how you would like to participate and complete the relevant application form below. If you are interested in both opportunities, you are welcome to submit both forms.

Can I deliver a Lightning Talk at the Data Science Festival Career Day?

The Data Science Festival is made possible by people who give up their time to share their knowledge. If you have your own personal experiences or have some tips and tricks to share that will help early careers, career returners or career switchers, we want to hear from you! We welcome every background, level and sector. The DSF is a safe space where every idea and every person is encouraged to come as they are and present to our growing community.

Lightning Talks are individual 15 minute presentations where speakers share their own experiences, lessons learned, practical advice, or career journeys with attendees. To look at some previous talks from last year’s DSF Career Day for inspiration, you can click here.

Tips for submitting a successful proposal

Help us understand why your presentation is the right one for Data Science Festival. Please keep in mind that this event is by and for professionals.

Be authentic. Your peers need original ideas in real world scenarios, relevant examples, and knowledge transfer. Not something they could learn from a book.

Give your proposal a simple and straightforward title.

Include as much detail about the presentation as possible.

Keep proposals free of marketing and sales.

Keep the audience in mind: they are early career professionals, career switchers, career returners, or those seeking practical tips and advice.

Limit the scope. Be realistic about the material you can cover in the time allowed.

Explain why people will want to attend and what they will take away from it.
