DSF Mentorship Programme

We’re proud to introduce the DSF Mentorship Programme, a collaboration between Data Idols, the Data Science Festival, and Talentology. This new initiative is a natural extension of what all three organisations stand for: connection, inclusion, and shared growth. It’s designed to create meaningful, personal relationships between those early in their careers and experienced mentors who want to give back. Whether you’re just starting out, returning to work, or exploring a new direction, this programme will offer the support, insight and community you need to take your next steps with confidence.

The Autumn 2025 cohort is now full. Spring 2026 cohort for mentees is full but applications are still open for mentors. Autumn 2026 cohort for mentees will open in January 2026.

At its heart, this programme is about breaking down barriers. Over eight weeks, small cohorts of mentees will connect with mentors for six structured sessions that cover everything from goal setting and confidence building to navigating the tech landscape and interview prep. Each session is designed to equip mentees with practical tools, a sense of direction, and most importantly a community of support. It’s a chance to grow skills, but also to grow together. Whether you’re looking to learn, lead, or both, this is your invitation to be part of something transformational.

This programme is shaped by the values and commitment of Jessica Willis, Katherine Ray, and David Loughlan, three leaders deeply embedded in the UK’s data and talent communities.

David is the founder of Data Idols, a recruitment company that helps data professionals find roles they love and supports companies to build high-performing teams, with a community-first, no-nonsense approach. He also founded the Data Science Festival and most recently launched Founders500, a growing network for creative founders across the UK. David’s motivation for co-creating this mentorship programme is simple: to give back. Throughout his career, he has seen how access, opportunity and the right support at the right time can be transformational, especially for those at the start of their journey. His mission was to build something that genuinely makes a difference, creating a structure where people feel seen, supported and able to move forward with purpose.

Jess is the Executive Director of the Data Science Festival, a platform that champions diversity, access and community in tech. She has built her career creating inclusive spaces where people can learn, thrive and grow through connection. She’s passionate about getting more women into STEM and is a vocal advocate for gender equality and human rights.

Katherine brings over two decades of experience in leadership and people development, specialising in mentoring, coaching and building inclusive cultures. Her work, from designing Unilever’s award-winning global mentoring programme to supporting progressive organisations through Talentology, is all about practical, human-centred development.

Together, David, Jess and Katherine have developed a mentorship experience rooted in community, built for real impact and designed to lift others as we climb.

What to expect

The Autumn 2025 cohort is now full. Spring 2026 cohort for mentees is full but applications are still open for mentors. Autumn 2026 cohort for mentees will open in January 2026.

Fill in the application to start the process. Mentors will jump on a quick call with the DSF team to make sure they are the right fit for the programme. We will run through the programme content and timeline and they can ask any questions.

After this we will match up the mentors and mentees to make sure you are the right fit based on what you want to get out of the programme.

We will all have a group induction call. This is to make sure everyone is on the same page, discuss safeguarding and code of conduct. You will be sent our agreement to move ahead with the programme. All calls will take place via Zoom and will get an invite sent over to you.

Each mentor will then lead a small group of up to six mentees through a series of six guided sessions delivering meaningful, real-world insights and tailored career support. These sessions will be online and the mentor will send the invites directly. This is to allow them to flex with work priorities and schedule the sessions around other responsibilities.

Through structured, themed calls and hands-on exercises, the programme offers a dynamic space to:

Explore career pathways and industry roles

Build confidence and personal growth plans

Polish job application tools like CVs, portfolios, and interview skills

Learn how to navigate the tech world with authenticity and resilience

Celebrate progress, share wins, and gain peer support

How It Works:

1 Mentor + up to 6 Mentees per cohort

6 one-hour sessions delivered over 8 – 10 weeks

Interactive, discussion-based format grounded in experience-sharing and actionable advice

Open to early-career talent, career changers, and returners looking to make their next move in tech.
